What Is The Virginia RADEP Course?

RADEP stands for Reckless / Aggressive Driver Education Program. It combines eight hours of Driver Improvement with four hours of supplemental training on reckless and aggressive driving — 12 hours in all. Courts may require it, attorneys may recommend it, or you may need only the 4-hour part after an acceptable 8-hour course.

Before you register: not every Virginia court accepts online RADEP — confirm with your court or attorney first. RADEP courses do not award DMV safe-driving points, and no course guarantees a particular court outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many safe driving points can I earn?
Voluntary students can earn 5 safe driving points once every 24 months. Your record can hold a maximum of 5 safe driving points.
How long do I have to finish a DMV-required clinic?
90 days. If you do not finish in time, DMV suspends your driving privilege.
Is RADEP the same as an 8-hour Driver Improvement course?
No. Driver Improvement is 8 hours; RADEP adds a 4-hour reckless/aggressive driving component for 12 hours total.
How do I know whether I need 8 or 12 hours?
Check your paperwork. "Driver Improvement" usually means 8 hours; "12-hour RADEP" means the full program.
I already finished an 8-hour course. What now?
You may only need the 4-hour Supplemental RADEP, if your earlier certificate is accepted.
Will every Virginia court accept online RADEP?
No. Practices vary, so confirm with your court or attorney before enrolling.
Do RADEP courses give +5 DMV safe-driving points?
No. Neither the 12-hour nor the 4-hour online RADEP course awards safe-driving points.
How do I get my certificate?
After you pass, your certificate is processed and sent by email. Keep a copy for your court or attorney.
Is the Spanish option a separate Spanish course?
No. It is the English course with lessons, quizzes and exams shown in Spanish via Google Translate.
